What's in a name?

Hello and welcome to Catching Falling Glassware.  Perhaps you're wondering what the name means.  Someone once told me that the sign of a good chemist is the ability to catch falling glassware.  I'm not a chemist any more, I'm more of a chemical biologist with a side interest in programming, but I am still very clumsy.  Consequently, when I'm working in the lab, I drop a lot of stuff. Usually I fail to catch it.  Sometimes it breaks.  More often, it just spills its rancid contents all over the floor.

Hence the side-interest in programming.  You aren't usually in a position to spill your code all over the floor.

A long long time ago, I used to love to write.  I wanted to write all the time.  Somewhere in the intervening years, I stopped writing.  I am out of practice and everything feels a bit clunky.  I want to use this blog to get back into the habit of writing -- to discuss cool science and interesting books and of course to indulge in my other favourite subject -- political rants.

Happy reading!
